Guest Chef Franck Mathevet at Still
River Café Aug 24 & 25
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER – Kara and Bob
Brooks' inspiration to open the Still
River Café in Eastford, Connecticut, in
no small part, came from the experience of writing
Paradise Found and getting to know the chefs
and restaurant owners that make the St. Barths dining experience
so exquisite.
On August 24th and 25th, Franck Mathevet, chef extraordinaire
and owner of the Wall House Restaurant, will be visiting a
guest chef at the Still River Café and will be creating
an unforgettable “Festival of St. Barthélemy”
gala dinner—a holiday in France marked by fireworks,
the ringing of bells and, of course, wonderful food.
Kara and Bob will be working with Franck to create a special
seven-course chef tasting menu that will combine specialties
from the Wall House restaurant and the Still River Café.
The event will highlight the dishes that make the Wall House
such a special place and combine them with the marvelous
produce that is grown at the Still River Cafe's farm.
The cost for dinner is $95 per person with
a pairing of select French wines offered at $55. Space is
extremely limited as our restaurant is small so we ask that
you reserve well in advance. Reservations can be made by calling
860-974-9988.
Getting to the Still River Café:
We are located just 6 miles off I-84 (exits 73 or 74) and
35 minutes from Hartford, 50 minutes from Providence, an hour
from downtown Boston and 2-1/2 hours from New York City. If
you are flying, you should be able to find flights into Bradley
Airport in Hartford, T.F. Greene Airport in Providence or
Logan Airport in Boston.
Lodging: There are several options for lodging
depending on what you are looking for by way of accommodations.
The “Cultural Visitor” -- Those
looking for a cultural experience could stay in one of the
many excellent hotels in Boston and enjoy that city’s
numerous museums and historical sites.
The “High-Roller / Let the Good Times
Roll Visitor” – What happens in Connecticut stays
in Connecticut. Okay. . . Connecticut is not Vegas, but the
two largest casinos in the Northeast-- Foxwoods and Mohegan
Sun -- are located 45 minutes away and are a lot of fun. Great
spas, nice hotels, etc.
The “Quiet Weekend in the Country Visitor”
– Eastford is located in what is known as The Quiet
Corner of Connecticut. As such, those looking for the quintessential
New England experience will find it in one of our local
inns and B&Bs. We recommend the Tolland Inn and the
Elias Child House. In Sturbridge Village (just 15 minutes
away) you will find a number of hotels and inns including
the historic Publick House and several chain hotels as well.
The area boasts many antique shops, orchards, vineyards
and lots of lakes, rivers and hiking trails.
